Love art, not power. Marcus Aurelius 4.31

The true purpose of art is not control, but surrender. If you can master your own desire to rule, the riches of the world will grace you with beauty you cannot claim or own. Leave power to the gods, who will always take it from overweening humans, intent upon being masters and slaves.

Τὸ τεχνίον ὃ ἔμαθες φίλει, τούτῳ προσαναπαύου· τὸ δὲ ὑπόλοιπον τοῦ βίου διέξελθε ὡς θεοῖς μὲν ἐπιτετροφὼς τὰ σεαυτοῦ πάντα ἐξ ὅλης τῆς ψυχῆς, ἀνθρώπων δὲ μηδενὸς μήτε τύραννον μήτε δοῦλον σεαυτὸν καθιστάς.

Love the little art you've learned. Find your solace in it. Spend the rest of your life trusting all your affairs to the gods wholeheartedly, refusing to be tyrant or slave to other folk.
