Death is natural, like birth. Marcus Aurelius 4.5
Marcus advises us to
expect death, so that we meet her calmly, and with good cheer,
accepting her as a necessary part of the mystery of life. As we
accept birth, another natural accident beyond our power, so we should
accept death.
Death is a thing
like birth, a mystery of nature. Birth is a combination of the same
elements whose association death dissolves. It is certainly nothing
to be ashamed or afraid of. The rational animal encounters it as
something ordinary and expected, a regular milestone on life's way.
